Tips to Reduce Your Holiday Expenses to Phuket

One of the great attractions of Thailand is that it is affordable. The Tourism Authority of Thailand can transport on pushing their vision of Thailand like a millionaire's playground for as long as they want but still most of visitors will be people who have a restricted budget.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand can hold on pushing their vision of Thailand just like a millionaire’s
playground for as long as they want but still most of visitors is going to be people who have a restricted budget.

Accommodation

If you would like budget accommodation then usually you'll find good deals just by walking in from the street. Walk around the side streets of any of Phuket's beach resorts and you'll find guesthouses. During peak high-season (Xmas & January) it is best to book in advance as there might not be any rooms available. Anything you do, do not ask a tuk-tuk driver for any recommendation. They will just take you somewhere that pays them commission.

If you would like mid to high range accommodation then you need to book in advance. If you walk in from the street, you will pay more for the room. It may seem strange but it's cheaper to book in advance via a travel agent or internet-booking site. The internet booking sites possess the best rates. This Australian based website does a cost comparison across 30 internet-booking sites and finds the least expensive available rates.

If you are on the longer-term holiday of a month or more it may be worth looking for an apartment. Should you go further back in the beach (e.g. Nanai Road in Patong), you'll find nice one bedroom apartments from 12,000 baht per month.

Flights

Finding cheap airfares is a touch more complicated.

There is a lot to be said for purchasing a package holiday from a tour operator. They will use their buying capacity to ensure you get good rates for the hotels and flights. However, lots of people enjoy the flexibility and independence of booking their very own flights.

We would like to give a connect to a single site that provides cheap international flights around the world. Unfortunately, it does not work like this.

The airlines do not give their cheapest tickets towards the major international travel sites. They already know companies such as Travelocity & Priceline have the marketing capacity to sell tickets that are more costly. Therefore, while these companies sell in additional countries and cover more destinations, they don't have cheap airline tickets.

The airlines give their cheapest tickets to small independent travel specialists. These smaller agents usually only sell flights that depart using their local country. So for instance, if you are in the UK you could check cheapflights.co.uk and they'll check for the cheapest flights from the range of small agents. You can definitely find return flights to Phuket from £500 or less. By trying the major international travel agents then return flights begin with $2,000. Therefore, whatever country you're in, check the internet or classifieds for the local travel agents and look around.

Travel Insurance

Much traffic seem willing to travel to Thailand without travel insurance. The reduced medical costs in Thailand mean this isn't such a big gamble as in a destination such as the United States where high medical fees along with a litigious society make travel insurance an important.

However, we really would suggest that new visitors to Thailand get some form of travel insurance. Things can and do fail and it is best to be protected.

Don't get travel insurance from your travel agent. They might offer good deals on package holidays however they try to make the money back around the extras and their insurance rates are overpriced.
